Abstract: This paper summarized the present situation of subject librarian service in domestic and foreign university libraries, and introduced the project with librarian as informationist embedded in the research team in NLM (the National Library of Medicine). This project chose senior librarian from Bio-medical Library of University of California to join the whole research process like attending the scholar meeting and even working in the laboratory as a member of research team, and provide assistance about application for scientific research projects, data collection and analysis, which realize the added value to the data, librarian and library. It finally suggested a new service mode of subject librarian in university library in the new period based on the analysis about the project of NLM.
