Abstract: The career development of librarians is now facing new challenges in the information era. This paper analyzed the career development of librarians with different backgrounds through an investigation on different librarians from three main library systems in China, covering the following aspects: the structure of diplomas and majors, self-cognition and professional self-identity. With the supporting system of library professionalism, the encouragement and supervision of regulations as well as further education and training opportunities and measures, it was possible to help librarians to achieve their professional goals and find their sense of professional self-identity during their work, so as to promote the rapid and healthy development of library.
