Abstract: Professional ability of librarians has direct and important impact on social function of public library, and therefore improving the professional ability of librarians is of great significance to the development of public library. In this thesis, the necessity of improving public librarians’ professional ability was firstly stated, and then the professional abilities that public librarians should have were analyzed, and finally the promotion strategies were discussed from the aspects of both library and librarian.
