The Status Quo of Characteristics and Main Development Point of Science Popularization Reading Promotion Activities in Public Libraries:Based on the First and Second Collected Cases

Abstract: [Purpose/significance]The paper sorts out the overall activities of science popularization reading promotion in order to provide thoughts and solutions. [Method/process]The paper uses statistics method and case study, taking the collected cases as research sample, analyses the status quo and characteristics based on activities' content, subject and object, and further studies on future main development point based on typical cases.[Result/conclusion] Popular science reading and promotion activities are diverse in the main body, and the participation of social forces is high; the types of activities are rich and varied but not focused; the content of activities is mainly based on bibliographic recommendation and digital reading; clearly distinctive on activity objects. The paper proposes that the public library takes the popular science books and reading materials as the core and purpose, and takes the development path of "inducing reading interest, focusing on the dissemination and popularization of scientific knowledge, and branding continuous promotion activities".
