Gaming Services for the Elderly in Public Libraries in China

Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] Based on our understanding of the actual needs of senior readers for library gaming services, and summarizing relevant overseas experiences of gaming success, the paper puts forward suggestions on gaming services for senior citizens in China's public libraries, providing references for future related research and practice. [Methods/Procedures] The authors first surveyed the current status of gaming services for the elderly in public libraries at home and abroad by literature review and visiting library websites. Then semi-structured interviews were conducted with 14 elderly readers to investigate and analyze their demand for library gaming services. [Results/Conclusions] Based on the research results and drawing on the successful experience of providing gaming services for senior users of international public libraries, this paper puts forward rational suggestions for the development of gaming services for the elderly in public libraries in China from five aspects: service concept, service resources, service form, service mechanism, and service management.
