Abstract: According to the historical data of National Library of China, this paper summarized the development process and the service object change of reference group business in National Peking Library in the republican period, as well as the earliest record of consulting service and the typical service cases, and published books and articles of librarians, and showed the achievements of reference work in this period, which corrected the viewpoint proposed by some scholars that the reference work of National Peking Library during the Anti-Japanese War was interrupted.
