From Backburner to the Forefront: Review of the Application of Autoethnography in the Information Science Field

Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] Autoethnography offers an anthropological approach to illuminating researchers' subjectivity, self-consciousness and personal experience. As a kind of "evocative" practice, it has not been paid attention in academic field of information science. [Method/Process] This study analyzes the application of autoethnography in the information science research in terms of research topics, forms, advantages and limitations. [Results/Conclusions] The superiority of self-ethnography is reflected in research perspectives, research methods, and the presentation of research findings, and its applicability depends on the nature of research subject and of the research question.
