The Application of Official Wechat Management in University Libraries——Taking Shanghai University Library as an Example

Abstract: As the most popular mobile social APP in China, wechat brings powerful opportunities as well as challenges to university libraries. This paper described a case study on how Shanghai University Library implemented wechat app to promote and manage library service. The results showed the benefits brought by wechat app in mobile client, as easy and quick access to library collection, personal library records, books renewal, library facilities utilization and brand activity promotion, and demonstrated that wechat has become a new powerful platform for promoting and managing library service, the mobile library for readers, an important channel for library to respond to mobile reading service and maintain relationship with patrons, as well as a new growth pole for library innovation.
