Strategic Analysis on Patent Production and Capacity of Scientific and Technological Innovation among Yunnan’s Universities

Abstract: With the development of intelligent economy and economic globalization, intellectual property has become an important support in creating an innovative nation. Universities are the constitutional part of scientific and technological innovation system in the nation with the annual increase of patent applications and granted patents. Patent production has been one of the important indexes in measuring the capacity of scientific research and innovative strength among universities. In this paper, the data of patent production in twenty two universities and colleges in Yunnan were collected from SooPAT patent searching engine. The statistical analysis was conducted in the aspects of patent amount, distributing year, type of patent, authorized invention patent, co-applicant institution, and technological fields since the installation of Patent Law in 1985. The innovation capacities of science and technology among these universities and colleges were quantitatively analyzed, and the strategies and suggestions were proposed with regard to the current status of patents.
