Analysis on the Differences Between Traditional and Digital Microfilm Technologies——A case of National Library of China

Abstract: This paper applied comparative study method to compare and analyze the differences between traditional and digital microfilm technologies in aspects including operating principles, development phase, work process, key parameters, conversion mode, storage mode, cost and so on, by taking the traditional microfilm of National Library during these 30 years and digital microfilm technology in nearly 4 years as example, and regarding nearly 10 million films as research samples. Combining with practical work and theoretical research, it studied the differences between traditional and digital microfilm technologies, aiming to better use respective advantages of these two different technologies and provide more convenient service for long-term preservation and protection of literature. Finally it put forward the usage mode of technical route.
