Abstract: The block printing in China began in Tang Dynasty, developed in the Five Dynasties and flourished in Song Dynasty. Song Dynasty was the golden age for the development of printing. There was no doubt that no other dynasties could compare to the Southern and Northern Song Dynasty in printing, concerning either the large quantities of organizations, the broad areas, the massive scales, the elaborate techniques, the rich contents or the flourishing book trade and wild transportation. The reasons for the brilliant achievements of printing in Song Dynasty should be owned to the policies of valuing literature and literati, the booming imperial competitive examination and education, the good atmosphere of reading and researching, the development of economy, the progress of technologies and the prosperity of industry and commerce.
