The Functions and Characteristics of American Public Library

Abstract: This article introduced detailed four functions of American public library: information acquisition and knowledge dissemination, education, entertainment, social benefit. And the service characteristics of American public library were also presented: universality and Openness, service convenience, service diversity, good hardware facilities and environment.
