Abstract: The necessity and advantages of creating professional scientific and technical journals in English in “985 project and platform” universities in China were analyzed from the perspective of international development of journal. First, the amount and scale of these journals sponsored by these universities were small, resulting in a large number of high-quality scientific and technical papers submitted to foreign journals, which posed a serious threat on the safety of science and technology information resource in China. Second, the development of disciplinary construction of international communication platform in these universities made it necessary to establish professional scientific and technical journals in English. On the other hand, these universities had many advantages in creating professional scientific and technical journals in English, including: 1) with many domestic or international-class disciplines; 2) with strong scientific research strength and many publications funded by national level science foundation; 3) with a large number of outstanding talents; 4) with more and more frequent international cooperation and exchanges to prepare a large number of international author resource; 5) with rich experiences in running journals.
