Abstract: Every library has different criterions to deal with the cataloguing and title number of multi-edition western language books with no uniform criterion, so it is easy to occur different cataloguing and title number for multi-edition of one book. According to the basic idea of book description and classification requirements, the cataloging personnel needs to distinguish the edition of western language books and authorize photomechanical printing books correctly, and confirm whether they are new books, duplicate books or the same kind of books, and objectively describe cataloguing title, version, published version and history and other information in detail. Through the analysis on the version of western language books, this paper put forward the treatment methods of the title number and auxiliary distinguish code about this kind of books based on the working practice.
