Abstract: Crop discipline is one of the most important and historical essential subjects in Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), and is also a backbone discipline in the system construction. In this article, the research ability and level of CAAS was analyzed from different angles and in multiple forms based on the empirical data analysis and evaluation, including scientific and technical supporting capability, innovation ability and industry influence. The results showed that in recent five years, the crop discipline of CAAS had strong strength in comprehensive development and played a leading role in domestic institutions with a growing academic influence. It also found some weaknesses of discipline development, like crop physiology ecology and cultivation area was relatively weak; the research in corn was lay behind in general; in terms of breeding, there was a lack of good varieties for the main crops such as rice and wheat, whether on promotion value or influence. Finally, the countermeasures to solve these problems were put forward.
