Abstract: This paper is to collect periodical literature on international research achievements related to Mediterranean anemia disease from Web of Science (WOS). Software Histcite, a visualization analysis tool, was used to statistically analyze the distribution of publishing time, major research institutions, core journals and key authors in this field. Highly cited literature were mapped into a citation chronological chart with which researchers can have an intuitive understanding of the historical evolution of this research field so as to facilitate them to determine the research trends and research topics. It will also provide significant literature information for further research in this field. Thus this empirical study gives a new way of discipline service to improve the quality of discipline service in library.
